What to Do with Unused Dialysate Solution
It's been so awesome to no longer need to connect to the cycler each night. I've returned it to Baxter through a really simple process. Got a UPS box with shipping label, placed the machine into the box, and left it outside the front door the next morning. UPS swung by that afternoon to pick it up.
Now, I still have 31 boxes of dialysate solution left over. Linda realized recently that they've been quietly serving as an unintentional bookshelf.
Fortunately, Baxter will also pick up any unused solution if they're in unopened, unexpired boxes. They don't redistribute them to other patients. They just dispose of them, saving you the toil of draining each bag down the sink, one-by-one.
So, I've scheduled a pickup for my unused solutions. It'll be nice to get that space back. We do need a new bookcase, but this was not the way.
My Satellite Wellbound nurse John had mentioned that I could also dispense my extra solution on the soil of a garden or houseplants -- apparently, the plants really enjoy the dextrose! So I will keep some bags for my parents' fruit trees. Looking forward to trying the guavas next season!
